Engagement Session in Daejeon – Kelsey and Matthew

I received a message from Kelsey asking about shooting their engagement session back in January of this year. She wanted to plan it for April, the time of cherry blossoms and a spring atmosphere. Closer to the date, we discussed clothing choices and locations, which Kelsey and Matthew left up to me and I knew just the spot with a limited amount of people and plenty of trees.

Even though cherry trees have their own forecast here in Korea, the predictors are not always right as to which week/weekend the blossoms will be in full bloom. This spring was a bit cold and the forecast was thrown off by about a week. This is exactly how it happened – when I went into work on Tuesday at my university, the trees were still on an empty side, but when I returned on Friday of the same week – they were in full bloom. Bam!

After rescheduling the session once due to the premature forecast, we had to shoot the following weekend without a doubt and I was glad that we did. The weekend after that, the trees have lost a lot of petals due to wind and rain, so when it comes to cherry blossoms you have to be checking on them almost daily.

We started off on a path behind the soccer field, where the trees are planted in two nice rows.

Checking the second location, where I’ve shot down on the couple through the trees, I was bummed out because those trees weren’t blooming yet. Therefore I had to find another location for the same up from the trees perspective. A little smoking balcony on the 2nd floor did the trick.

The third location we came back to twice, before the sunset and after. Before sunset became one of my favorite images from this session.

Here is another from the same location, but a different perspective.

Fourth spot was quite busy with banners in the way of trees, so we didn’t stay here long.

The last location is up on the hill, very central, but unknown to most – I call it my secret spot and for a good reason. Just look at the amount of cherry trees that surround you, its a perfect picnic destination or an engagement session with a very romantic feel.

We loved the variety in locations and pictures. We were happy to have a lot of different styles and settings! – Kelsey and Matthew on their engagement session

Kelsey and Matthew are planning for a very exciting destination wedding in Koh Chang, Thailand this August and I wish them to have a wonderful celebration in Thailand’s tropical paradise.

Thank you Kelsey and Matthew for your kindness, patience and enthusiasm in this lovely engagement session!
