Photography & travel tips from an award-winning photographer, educator & wanderlust

Portrait: Hyunhee

Yesterday’s deadline passed by unnoticed and here is my shot of the week – my beautiful friend Hyunhee. She was very shy and reserved about taking her photograph and had a hard time smiling naturally. This was definitely surprising for such a natural and photogenic Korean beauty. After acting totally silly and helping her with her poses, this is the shot that I liked the most.

Now, I can understand what it’s like to work in semi-challenging situation. Not every subject will know exactly what to do and how to do it, therefore I feel like it is a bigger challenge to me as the photographer to help my model to feel comfortable and look gorgeous, while capturing her true beauty and style.

I chose this location the day before and loved these weeds/flowers, knowing that they would make a great bokeh at a shallow aperture. I had to shoot soon, since these places randomly get trimmed. We shot on a holiday and had a small window of sunset light.

Taken by the Gapcheon River in Daejeon, South Korea around 7pm during sunset. I used 50mm 1.8 lens at iso 800, f2.0, 1/200sec with all natural light.

tune in for more portraits next week!
