Photography & travel tips from an award-winning photographer, educator & wanderlust

Ukraine

What I loved: the food (comfort food to be exact – lots of potatoes, mayonaise and vodka); European architecture; national clothes; the Black Sea; nostalgia

What I didn’t: the economy is rough and unstable (your $1 will fluctuate even while you’re there), rude sales people, lack of road rules, road rage

Quick travel tips: travel with a local, or you’ll get scammed; try all Ukrainian dishes (I doubt you’ll dislike any of them); get ready to drink and drink a lot; go to an Orthodox church (it’s beautiful!); don’t eat seafood, sold at the beach by a walking saleswoman at 30C (yes, I speak from personal experience); take a train around Ukraine; visit a smaller town or village; don’t be afraid to visit Ukraine, its not so bad!
