  1. I love, love, love this kind of stuff. Useless useful facts are my absolute favorite! This list just made my day. I’d like to become a zombie for the 5km race!

  2. Those dragon boat races sound pretty interesting to me! I’ve only passed through Daejeon to go to a day trip of hiking in Gyerongsan National Park. We loved the hiking there and the local makgeolli! Perhaps you can share your local makgeolli flavor on part 2 of this post??!!

    • Megan, they host dragon boat races in Incheon and Busan as well, sometimes you can sign up through Adventure Korea or one of those travel groups to participate. Good luck!

  3. Well thats definitely more useful than useless! I haven’t been to Daejeon yet, we may make it down this summer though! I would love to kayak on that river and hit up the bakery!

  4. This is so freaking hilarious (simply because I lived there my year teaching abroad so I know) Daejeon is completely useless in comparison to the other large cities. But it was my home away from home and so its comforting to read all these silly things. You should plug the Ultimate Frisbee Team (Daejeon has three official teams in the ROK-U team) that plays near Manyeonndong. My friends always show at the Daejeon Arts Collection. What else… oh Pop Con Bar in Dunsan-dong actually serves popcorn!

  5. I really enjoyed this post Alla! Having lived in Daejeon back in 2010 I really, really, really enjoyed the trip down memory lane. I think you should do more fun posts like this one. I think they would make a very popular blog post series! 🙂

  6. Yes to things we usually take for granted. Seoul has many of these seemingly useless things but it’s great to know and be using them. Actually, i admire how Korea in general revives and makes every nook and cranny look good and useful.

  7. Great post! I love this sort of stuff. I didn’t know much about Daejeon; I’d seen about 2 minutes of it as we drove through picking people up on a bus en route to Jeju Island. The zombie race looks fun – is that guy actually proposing?! Great shot if so. Thanks for sharing!
