    Portrait: Olivia

I love shooting children into the light. Especially blonde-haired kids come off very angelic-looking, not a bad look for a 4 year old. This was done during The Golden Hour, about 1 hour away from sunset. Golden hour requires planning and preparation in order to get all the ideas accomplished before the sun disappears behind the mountains. Another important aspect of photographing children is rapport. Trust, understanding and cooperation on both parts are important and that is

    Portrait: Olivia

Olivia – revisited. We’re building a barn/my future studio/beer brewing facility here in Montana and I just haven’t had the chance to take any new portraits. So here is Olivia from our “Princess by the Mirror” shoot. She was so easy photograph with all her funky faces that she was making at herself, while looking in the mirror. All I did was snap away, haha how easy is that. She is 3 and I thought it was appropriate to say that she’s still working on her Angel percentage, lol

    Portrait: little Olivia

This week I’ve been traveling yet again and this week’s portrait came along at the last minute (that seems to be the trend recently). Olivia is my husband’s niece and she was sweet enough to play dress-up with me. She put on one of her prettiest dresses and was totally cool when I asked her to sit and pose by the mirror. I loved the composition of this photo with the warm lights, wooden trim of the house, and various toiletries laying around. I asked her to brush her hair and

    Portrait: a kid

While walking to our resort in Sabang, Palawan, Philippines, a group of kids was yelling at Garrett and I. No they didnt ask for money (like in Cebu), but they wanted a picture! I was very happy to photograph the kids because sometimes the locals are not thrilled with having their picture taken, but when they ask you themselves – its a small holiday in my mind! I took some shots of kids fighting for the spot in the front, when this little man started crying (what is it with m

Portrait: a little girl from our travels in the Philippines

I’m back after almost 3 week hiatus in the Philippines with my hubby. Internet was not widely available during our travel, or if it was it was through a tablet device. Long story short it was a challenge trying put up my weekly portrait assignments on this blog in a timely manner, so instead I saved them for when we came back. This photo was taken on Feb. 5, 2013 and satisfies the requirement for a portrait to be taken between 2/4-2/11! About this shot – Taken with a Canon G1
