Photographing fall in Daejeon, South Korea

Autumn – the year’s last, loveliest smile” by William Cullen Bryant. Living in a city of over 1.5 million and growing, may be a bit challenging finding those picturesque autumn splashes of color. Over the years, I was able to visit a number of places in Daejeon, where fall and it’s ephemeral beauty are IN YOUR FACE! I hope you take the time out of our busy lives to enjoy an afternoon or a picnic in one of the following autumn-filled places: City Hall Park  (시청 공원) – City Hall

    The autumn princess

It’s drizzling, cold and winter is rapidly approaching despite our attempts to hold on to the memories of warm, multi-colored foliage here in Daejeon. Contacted by Anya a month or so back, little did we know that our session would give us the last chance to capture the amazing colors which usually decorate our city in the fall. She had an idea for a flowery headband and flower houses, which were just as beautiful as person as they are in the photographs. She put in a lot of w

    Jangtaesan Recreational Forest

The roads and views at Jangtaesan Recreational Forest Do not let 6 years go by without seeing some of the coolest scenery around your city. That is what happened to me, until one day I braved the unknown and took 3 public buses over a course of 2 hours to the South of Daejeon city, to a place where trees are tall and fall foliage is abundant. Good thing I brought my camera… For a romantic nature getaway, a hike or a student festival (I met some of my Mokwon students while on

    Tips for shooting autumn colors

Tips for shooting autumn colors and leaves: 1. Set your camera on White Balance settings to Cloudy, to give the colors extra warmth. 2. Grab a fast lens: anything with a wide aperture such as 1.8, 1.4 or 1.2 would give you that yummy bokeh circles, such as the 1st picture (shot with a 50mm 1.8, a $100 lens, but it does wonders vs a faster lens such as 3.5 or 4.0.) 3. Create the illusion of abundance by compression. Shooting with a wide angle lens, such as 12-24mm Tamron (what

    Photography: children

When snacks and drinks prolong the life expectancy of your photo shoot, even if some of the shots look like this cute Ad for the juice company (luckily they were holding it the other way otherwise I would have photo-shopped it out, making it more obvious than necessary), just roll with it! #children #foliage #leaves #cute #juice #girls #fall #twins #kids #autumn #pink

    Portrait: Lisa

Buddha’s Birthday in South Korea is a day off, woo hoo! For me, a day off is a great time for some personal work and photo shoots  My friend Lisa expressed interest in posing for me and my wheels started turning about the theme, location, accessories, etc. I don’t get tired of talking about being inspired by Sue Bryce and her posing styles. I believe that paying attention to nuances, details and especially hands will make a great photograph stand out from a good one. Sue’s po
