Fordham and Dominion Brewing Company

There once was a Brewing Company, called Old Dominion, which was around from 1996-2006. Despite their production of high quality beers, they went on sale in mid 2000s. In 2007, Fordham Brewing of Annapolis, Maryland (with the help of financing from Anheuser-Busch (AB) purchased the Old Dominion Brewery, creating Coastal Brewing Company as a result. After a few years of creating and brewing recipes, the two companies opened a brewery in Dover, Delaware – calling it Fordham and Dominion Brewing Company.

Throughout our history, we have always believed in two things: the beers we make and the people who drink them.” – Fordham and Dominion Brewing Co.

The best way to see, taste and smell a brewery is through its insides – a brewery tour. Luckily for my drinking partner (my mom) and I, Fordham and Dominion has tours 4 days a week:

Wednesdays 5:30pm-8:30pm

Thursdays and Fridays from 5pm-8pm

Saturdays 11am-4pm.

First, step into the tap room, where a bit too cozy of a room holds a bar and as you can see by the sad and injured lady on the left (of the image above) – there are no seats. Umm, hello! Do they not want us to stay there and linger? Are the chairs out of style?

What is that? 4 free samplers are included in the upcoming tour? Oh, chairs! I forgot all about those silly things. FREE BEER? Yes, please!

Fordham and Dominion are proud brewers of over 20 different styles of beer – regulars and seasonals. You can find their updated selection of beer here and don’t forget to admire the sexy labels.

The pinup series of beers are their most popular series, can you guess why? With the names like ‘Hop Lips’ and ‘Double D Double IPA,’ they are not just refreshing, the bottles and designs are a feast for the eyes.

Alright, alright, let’s not get too hot and bothered before the climax of this Brewery’s visit – the actual tour. It lasted about 20-30 minutes with a very informative and enthusiastic tour guide. Yes, we could bring our beers on tour (not the case at Dog Fish Head Brewery – stay tuned for a future post from this popular brewing empire).

Unlike at the bigger breweries, you can actually stand close to all the machinery, packaging and kegs. For those reasons alone, you need to have closed toed shoes. We didn’t spy any brewers, but were not surprised due to the insane humidity and heat of that day. Imagine hundreds of gallons of sugary goodness cooking inside on a hot, humid day – no wonder I still have a ridiculous memory of coming home to three half naked dudes in my kitchen – brewing beer.

Unfortunately, you’d have to drink a bit more than 4 free samples of beer to see anyone half naked at Fordham and Dominion Brewing Co., but it doesn’t mean that you can’t try. Go ahead and pay them a visit!
